Divine Office App Now Supports Full Line of iPhone Products Including iPad
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, (May 12, 2010)—The Ministry of Divine Office, a non-profit group that offers the “Liturgy of the Hours” collection of Roman Catholic prayers online and via the iPhone and iPod Touch, has released the latest version of the Divine Office app with a new full text feature and iPad compatibility.
The Divine Office app automatically downloads (several days at a time) audio prayers for every hour and day of the year, including Solemnities and many feast days. It features the ability to view geographic locations where other users around the world are simultaneously praying. The new version includes full text downloads in addition to audio and is fully compatible will all Apple iOS products.
Divine Office uses the current four-volume “Liturgy of the Hours,” the official prayer book of the Roman Catholic Church, however, it is also suitable for individuals following most Christian traditions.
“The Divine Office app emphasizes the life-changing experience of prayer. This new version provides more choices to the praying community gathered around this project. We are excited about the update and our ability to bring more prayer to more people on more devices,” says Dane Falkner, founder of the Divine Office Ministry.
Divine Office “Liturgy of the Hours” audio and full text is available free of charge at the divineoffice.org web site with a free companion audio podcast on iTunes. A $14.99 download charge for the Divine Office app supports the Ministry and development efforts. Other apps offered by the Ministry include:
- Morning Prayer (Lauds) – audio Liturgy of the Hours
- Evening Prayer (Vespers) – audio Liturgy of the Hours
- Night Prayer (Compline) - audio Liturgy of the Hours
- Prayers - a reference of standard Catholic prayers in several languages
Divine Office apps registered over 13,500 downloads and 16,000 updates in the first quarter of 2010. At present there are over 10,000 active users of the Divine Office apps for iPhone and iPod Touch. Divineoffice.org counted over 158,000 visits in the first three months of the year with more than 44,500 unique visitors. The Divine Office app was developed by Surgeworks, a Salt-Lake City based application developer and graphical interaction design firm.
